CDE: Convention against Discrimination in Education, UNESCO, 1962 This Convention prohibits any form of discrimination in education, including discrimination based on sex. It covers education of all kinds and levels, and includes access to education, its standard and quality, and the conditions under which it is given. The CED limits the circumstances in which separate educational systems or institutions for the two sexes can be justified. Countries must promote equality of opportunity and treatment for everyone in education, while also respecting the liberty of parents to choose their children's school, and the right of national minorities to carry on their own educational activities. Countries that have ratified the Convention must report periodically on their compliance to the UNESCO General Conference. |
