CPAPM: Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, 1997

This Convention aims to impose a total ban on the use of anti-personnel mines. It requires states to never, under any circumstances, use, develop, produce, acquire, stockpile, retain, transfer, prepare to use, or encourage or assist anyone else to use anti-personnel mines. States parties also undertake to destroy all stockpiled anti-personnel mines they own or possess, and to mark, monitor and exclude civilians from any mined areas in their jurisdiction, until they have cleared the areas, which must be done as soon as possible. States must report on their progress to the UN, and update this information annually.
