CPRW: Convention on the Political Rights of Women, 1952 (entered into force 1954)

This Convention is the first United Nations instrument to deal specifically with the rights of women. It requires that women be entitled, on equal terms with men and without any discrimination, to vote, to be eligible for election to all publicly elected bodies, and to hold public office and exercise all public functions. No implementation mechanism is established by the Convention, but any disputes between parties to the Convention are to be settled by negotiation, and can be referred to the International Court of Justice at the request of any of the parties to the dispute.
