DFP: Declaration on Fundamental Principles Concerning the Contribution of the Mass Media to Strengthening Peace and International Understanding, UNESCO, 1978 This Declaration was proclaimed by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1978. It promotes the free flow of information and calls for wider and better balanced dissemination of information in order to strengthen peace and international understanding, promote human rights, and counter racism, apartheid and incitement to war. It emphasizes the important role of the mass media in providing accessible information from a diversity of sources, and in the education of young people in a spirit of peace, justice and freedom. The Declaration also stresses the importance of correcting the imbalances in information flows to and from developing countries, and between them. |
