DRD: Declaration on the Rights of Disabled Persons, 1975

This Declaration of the General Assembly proclaims that people with disabilities have the same fundamental rights as everyone else and are entitled to measures that enable them to become as self-reliant as possible. Among the specific rights referred to are the right to medical, psychological and functional treatment, to economic and social security, to a decent level of living, to have their special needs taken into account in economic and social planning, to live with their families, to be protected from exploitation, and to legal aid in certain circumstances. The Declaration provides a common standard for countries to strive towards in relation to people with disabilities.
