This collection of official documents and analysis on financing for gender equality as well as practical materials related to fundraising was originally produced as a CD-ROM and distributed during the 52nd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. The theme of the commission was ‘Financing for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.’
In light of upcoming conferences such as the Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus, to be held in November in Doha, IWTC is hosting the collection on its website to support informed participation in debates and discussions around the gender-specific aspects of these issues. The collection is divided into the following categories:
A. Background Reading
B. Official Documents
C. Critiques & Analysis
D. Gender-Responsive Budgets
E. Resources for Fundraisers
F. Other Essential Reading
While the collection contains 71 items, the annotated bibliography is a good starting point as it contains detailed summaries of all the resources and articles it contains.
If you are predominantly interested in the fundamental questions, debates and discussions around financing for gender equality, we direct your attention to the first three sections where you will find several useful articles, including:
1. From Beijing to Doha: Tracking the Gender Dimension of Financing for Development and Gender Equality;
2. Financing for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women: Report of the Expert Group Meeting; and
3. Four excellent primers from the Association for Women In Development. (in Section C)
If fund-raising is your main focus, Sections E and F will be of particular relevance as they incorporate guides to fund-raising, information about donor databases and women’s funds and a complete manual on building organizational capacity for NGOs.
